Midjourney has officially launched the alpha version of its V7 model, marking the company’s first major update in nearly a year. The release introduces a default "Turbo" mode that significantly reduces image generation time, alongside a draft rendering mode that costs half the standard compute rate. A standout feature is the new "Model Personalization" system, which allows users to unlock a visual style tailored to their aesthetic preferences by rating approximately 200 images. This personalization can be toggled on or off and its intensity adjusted instantly. The architecture shift also includes a novel "Chat Mode," enabling users to refine prompts through conversational interaction rather than manual text editing. Currently, V7 is text-only with image prompting support expected within two months. The company noted that V7 is a distinct new model trained from scratch, requiring users to adapt to a different prompting style compared to V6.
